RESPIN Showcased at Climate Conference on Black Sea Risks During IPCC Side Event
As part of the sixty-first session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water, in collaboration with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, hosted a conference titled "Climate Risks in the Black Sea Region." The event took place at the historic Bulgarian Academy of Sciences building in the city center.
The conference, held over two days (July 25-26), was a key feature of the program accompanying Bulgaria's hosting of the IPCC-61 session. Organised under the patronage of Sofia's Mayor, Vasil Terziev, the event brought together leading scientists, experts, and policymakers to address pressing climate issues in the Black Sea region. This gathering was a prelude to the main IPCC session, where more than 500 delegates from 150 countries will discuss global climate science and policy from July 27 to August 2. The outcomes of these sessions will play a crucial role in shaping international climate strategies.
In addition to the conference, a cocktail reception was held in the enchanting University Botanical Garden, organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, with support from Sofia Municipality.
RESPIN, a project dedicated to strengthening the link between climate change and biodiversity loss, was prominently featured at the conference. Pensoft Publishers, a partner in the project, presented RESPIN through an informative stand, complete with banners, brochures, and engaging discussions. These conversations centered around critical topics such as climate characteristics and changes in the Black Sea region, the impact of climate change on the Black Sea, and advanced methods for climate data collection. These discussions underscored the importance of RESPIN’s mission in the broader context of addressing climate change and preserving biodiversity.
