Once every four years, the IUCN World Conservation Congress convenes a diverse community of actors, from scientists and policy-makers to civil society and the private sector, to discuss how knowledge can best inform effective conservation action. The Congress has become a major platform for strengthening science-policy interfaces (SPIs) and promoting collective strategies for biodiversity and climate resilience worldwide.
This year's edition of the Congress takes place in Abu Dhabi, from 9 to 15 October 2025, under the theme 'Powering transformative conservation'.
As part of the programme, RESPIN, together with CO-OP4CBD and BioAgora, will co-host a session at the IUCN Europe, North and Central Asia (ENCA) Pavilion on 11 October (14:00–15:30 GST). The session, titled “Bridging science and policy: European action for biodiversity and climate goals,” will focus on strengthening science-policy interfaces (SPIs) to advance the implementation of key international biodiversity and climate agreements.
Discussions will explore how to overcome barriers and leverage opportunities for engaging diverse actors in transformative action. The session will pursue two key goals:
-
Showcasing European and global efforts to reinforce SPIs for biodiversity and climate, identifying opportunities for scaling up.
-
Fostering inclusive dialogue among scientists, policy-makers, Indigenous and local knowledge holders, and other stakeholders on advancing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Agreement.
The agenda will feature presentations from European initiatives highlighting how they integrate scientific knowledge into policy processes. A moderated discussion will follow, focusing on aligning scientific outputs with policy needs, enhancing dialogue, and building long-term capacity. The event will conclude with an open Q&A to encourage participant interaction.
We hope to see you there!
